Study Abroad Book Club
Study Abroad Book Club Spring 2023 • Who: Open to all those interested in studying abroad, international travel, or discussions about the role of identities in an increasingly globalize world. • What: A weekly meet up to discuss Anu Taranath’s book, Beyond Guilt Trips: Mindful Travel in an Unequal World. Each week we will read and talk about one chapter from the book. These meetings will be facilitated by UNM study abroad advisors. • Where: Mesa Vista Hall, Room 3097 (Located on the third floor of Mesa Vista Hall above AASS and El Centro). • When: Every Thursday from 4:00 PM- 5:00 PM starting February 23rd until May 4th. • Why: To provide a space to reflect, think, and share: “While travel can provide much needed perspective, it can also be deeply unsettling, confusing, and discomforting. Travelers can find themselves unsure about how to think or speak about the differences in race or culture they find, even though these differences might have fueled their desire to travel in the first place.” - Anu Taranath • How: You can access a PDF of the book through UNM Libraries to read along. All are welcome even if you haven’t done the reading that week.
