Passports
Students and community members can apply for and renew their U.S. passports at the UNM bookstore! For more information, please visit the Passport Acceptance Center website.
All U.S. citizens traveling by air outside of the United States are required to present a passport book to re-enter the United States.
All U.S. citizens are encouraged to apply for a U.S. passport well in advance of anticipated travel. View current processing times here.
Quick Tips:
- Apply for a new passport as soon as possible to avoid travel and visa delays.
- A valid passport is required prior to completing visa applications.
- Check your passport expiration date before making travel plans. When in doubt, renew!
- Some countries require that your passport be valid for at least six months following the date of your projected exit from the country. Generally speaking, you can find the entry requirements on the pertinent Embassy’s website.
- If you are not a U.S. citizen, please consult with the Embassy of your country of citizenship on passport details.
- U.S. legal permanent residents need to ensure that they have the proper documentation to allow reentry into the United States.
U.S. citizens can visit the Bureau of Consular Affairs website or call 1-877-487-2778 for information on how to apply for their passports.
Study abroad students that hold dual citizenship and multiple passports may be able to avoid visa procedures. Students should review immigration requirements and restrictions for all countries they plan to travel to.
