Blog Abroad Scholarship
Do you like to write? Take pictures? Share your experiences with the world? Then the Blog Abroad Scholarship is for you! The Blog Abroad Scholarship intends to increase the number of UNM students able to study abroad while also informing prospective students about potential areas of study. Blog Abroad Ambassadors share their cultural experiences through a blog, which we will host on the Study Abroad website and social media accounts.
A total of six (6) scholarships ($500 for Semester students or $700 for Academic Year students) will be awarded each Fall and Spring semester.
Open to all majors and locations of study abroad. Only one student per any given country will be selected.
ELIGIBILITY
- Must be departing on study abroad in the fall or Spring semester (scholarship is not available for students leaving in the summer term)
- Be a degree-seeking undergraduate student at UNM.
- Plan to participate in an approved UNM study abroad program.
- Receive UNM credits or transfer credits for the international program.
- Have regular access to computers and the Internet while abroad.
REQUIREMENTS
Bloggers must:
- Create and maintain a UNM-appropriate blog;
- Post one blog upon arrival to host country;
- Post a minimum of 5 times during your study abroad semester (for Fall or Spring students) or 8 times for Academic Year students (4 times in Fall, 4 in Spring);
- And post at least once upon return (everyone);
- Posts may include pictures or videos, accompanied by text (at least 350 words);
- Minimum 7 posts (1 semester student) or 10 posts (Academic Year student), we encourage you to post more often though!
- The first blog must be submitted 1-3 weeks upon arrival in host country.
- The last blog must be submitted 1-3 weeks after returning home.
- At least 5 photos/videos should display UNM gear (t-shirts, lobo Louie or Lucy cutout, UNM flag, etc.)
- Bloggers will also be required to schedule at least 1 takeover of the @UNMSTUDYABROAD Instagram account.
- Bloggers will Assist in study abroad recruiting a minimum one time. They can choose to either volunteer at the UNM Study Abroad fair the semester after they return from study abroad, or host a UNM table at their host school while abroad.
- Ambassador blogs should inform prospective students about the culture and experiences of host country, including: culture shock, difficulties encountered, local customs, cuisine, interesting locations, etc.
*If you are awarded a grant but decide to postpone your study abroad, you will have to submit a new grant application.
*Failure to meet scholarship requirements will result in scholarship being returned.
