It took me some time to uncover the inspiration to create this blog, and I can relate to the struggles of seeking that spark. I came to Thailand for a multitude of reasons: to pursue my education, explore new horizons, and embrace life’s invaluable experiences. Like many, I longed for an environment that would cultivate my creativity and nurture my well-being—what the Thai people beautifully express as "Sabai Dee Mai," meaning I am fine.

Living in Thailand is nothing short of a thrilling adventure, filled with highs and lows that enrich your journey. As an Afro-Latina woman, I often find myself navigating a complex tapestry of emotions, swinging between indifference and a profound sense of being uniquely special. It’s incredibly heartwarming to know that you can forge deep connections with your TEAN family while discovering enchanting places like Chiang Mai, Bangkok, and Krabi. And those weekends ripe for exploration? They beckon with opportunities to venture into neighboring countries—just like the unforgettable week I spent in Malaysia with four other incredible girls. While sharing a bed can be a memorable part of the experience, I completely understand the allure of a cozy hotel when affordable options are available. Additionally, solo trips offer a chance to breathe and reflect, creating space for personal growth.

Thailand allows for beautiful connections with those around you. Living in the dorms means encountering new friends every day, and fostering a comforting sense of community. Though Mahidol University sits a bit farther from the city—requiring a 30-minute to hour-long commute—it’s easy to appreciate the reluctance to leave the warm embrace of familiar surroundings. Once you settle into life here, having everything you need just a stroll away is genuinely liberating. The low cost of living allows you to indulge in small joys, like ordering a Grab or savoring delectable street food, making every day a delightful adventure.

Thailand envelops you in a unique blend of complexities and simplicities, offering an experience that’s both exhilarating and serene. It’s effortless to fall head over heels for the various facets of life here. The sense of freedom and connection is palpable; you bond with others, creating a powerful feeling of belonging that we all yearn for. Just remember, while this sense of connectedness is enriching, it can also feel intense at times. Even in moments of solitude, you’re never truly alone.

As for the dorm situation, I empathize with those who crave independence. If that resonates with you, I recommend opting for a single dorm. While the rooms may be cozy, they will become your sanctuary for at least four months. TEAN is genuinely supportive and accommodating, ready to help with any concerns that may arise.

In conclusion, if you find yourself contemplating a journey to Thailand, I urge you to seize the moment and take that leap of faith. You absolutely won’t regret it. This remarkable country offers stunning beaches, lush forests, and an invigorating city life that pulses with energy.
