Overview

Introducing

The Glasgow School of Art (GSA) is Scotland's only public self-governing art school offering university-level programmes and research in architecture, fine art and design. The school is housed in one of Glasgow's most famous buildings, often considered the masterpiece of Charles Rennie Mackintosh and built between 1897 and 1909.
 
The Glagow School of Art is internationally recognised as one of Europe's leading higher education institutions for education and research in the visual creative disciplines.
 
NOTE: Applications for exchange are only accepted in the spring prior to the academic year of intended stay. One deadline of 1 May for both semester 1 (September to January) and semester 2 (January to May) applications. Exchange applications are accepted for the School of Fine Art in both semester 1 and semester 2 with exception of the Painting and Printmaking programme which only accepts Exchange students in semester 1. In the Mackintosh School of Architecture, we accept applications for Full Year or Semester 1.

Academics

The school currently has two separate campuses: the School of Fine Art, Digital Culture, and MFA programmes are in the vicinity of the fire damaged Mackintosh building. The School of Design - Textiles, Jewellery & Silversmithing, Product Design Engineering, Product Design, Communication Design and Interior Design - the Centre for Advanced Textiles, Design Innovation Studio and the Where the Monkey Sleeps cafe have recently moved back to the Garnethill Campus with the occupation of the new Reid Building.
 
The Design Innovation Centre, a research centre of the School of Design is based in Forres and the school has a Representative Office in Beijing, PRC. The GSA has a specialist research and postgraduate centre - Digital Design Studio (DDS) based on the southside of Glasgow in a new facility at Pacific Quay by the River Clyde in a building called The Hub.
 

NOTE: Some UK institutions have academic calendars which differ from the standard U.S. calendar. This may particularly affect students traveling for FALL semesters only, as final exams may be scheduled during the beginning of the U.S. SPRING semester. Please review this program’s policy on exam scheduling before committing (many programs will allow you to take exams either early or at UNM). Additionally, note that final transcripts may be delayed from UK schools. If you are graduating within 2 semesters of going abroad, please check with the GEO advisor for this program.
