Education Abroad Participation

Nationally, the number of U.S. students studying abroad for credit during the 2014-2015 academic year grew 3 percent from 304,467 students to 313,415 students. This represents just over 1.5 percent of all U.S. students enrolled at institutions of higher education in the United States and about 10 percent of U.S. graduates (IIE Open Doors).

Data specific to UNM are displayed below in three dashboards:

  1. Academic Year/Term:  During the 2016-2017 academic year, education abroad at UNM grew 10% from 742 to 841. Since 2013/2014 (613), education abroad enrollments have grown almost 40%.  Much of this growth comes from participation in faculty-led programming. Thank you, UNM faculty, for your leadership and interest in education abroad programming.
  2. Region/Country:  Top destinations at UNM include Spain, the United Kingdom, Mexico, Ecuador, France, and Cuba.
  3. College/Major: In the third dashboard, users can see where students study abroad by area of study.  Biology, Business, International Studies, Psychology, and Law, for example, are the top five sending majors at UNM.
